Must buy cocoa under affiliate agreement
Currently, the districts of Tan Phu, Thong Nhat, Long Khanh town ... of Dong Nai province are entering the cocoa harvest of the crop year 2015-2016. Mr. Dang Truong Khanh, Director of Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd. (Dinh Quan district) said that, currently, the cocoa harvest has been recovered and stood at a high level of 70,000 VND / kg.
This is the price of cocoa beans reaching a record so far due to lack of demand. However, the market is experiencing unfair competition in cocoa procurement.
According to Dang Truong Khanh, with the project of developing a large field for cocoa, the link between farmers and businesses is being built more and more. However, to jointly develop cocoa, Mr. Khanh shared: “The enterprise has implemented a project to cooperate with farmers to develop cocoa trees in the past decade. The biggest difficulty in the project is the equal distribution of responsibilities between farmers and businesses ”.

According to Mr. Khanh, the link between businesses and farmers is still very easy to be broken when there is an unhealthy competition in cocoa procurement. Specifically, Trong Duc Company signed a consumption contract and had investment policies for seeds, fertilizers, technical assistance for farmers and consumption of products at a stable price. But when there are businesses outside "jumping" in, paying a higher price to compete for purchasing, farmers are willing to break the link.
“Enterprises recommend that there should be a strict and binding regulation and clearer responsibilities for each participant; in which, it is necessary to promote the role of a bridge between enterprises and farmers of cooperatives. To do so, the cooperative needs to change its quality with a trained team to improve its operational capacity ”, Mr. Khanh emphasized.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuoc, Director of Thong Nhat Cocoa Cooperative (Thong Nhat District), commented: “The large field of cocoa trees is being implemented in Dong Nai province, which is very supportive by farmers. Because Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd is developing towards deep processing investment and now has products to export to fastidious markets like Japan. Accordingly, the company has a high price of product consumption for farmers and will continue to adjust prices according to the market ”.
According to Mr. Phuoc, although there is a situation that farmers break contracts with businesses to sell cocoa out, but only a few. The reason is not only the fault of the farmers but also because the organization of purchasing of cooperatives and cooperatives in the locality is not good. Here, the propaganda and mobilization of farmers should also be more concerned and transparent the cooperative's activities for the cooperative members to understand and support.
Mr. Nguyen Van Loc, Director of Nguyen Loc Cocoa Company Limited (Long Khanh Town) does not worry much about this unhealthy competition situation. Mr. Loc analyzed, a few years ago the purchasing situation of snatches in the cocoa market still happened. But the farmers themselves also realized the "unproductive benefit" of this situation of snatch shooting so it is not for the immediate benefit but to break the contract with the target business. Enterprises themselves also improve their competitiveness by better organizing the purchasing process with the view of sharing profits with farmers.
Loc added that the company is supplying raw materials to Puratos Grand-Place Vietnam Group. The Group has invested in a processing factory in Vietnam, not just doing business, so it is continuing to invest millions of dollars to develop cocoa in 2016. From the 2015-2016 crop, The group has implemented a policy of sharing profits with farmers by adding bonus points to farmers on a quarterly basis.
Therefore, the organization of good procurement, production and business profit sharing for farmers to develop sustainable linkages is the direction that businesses are making to develop cocoa trees in a sustainable way.
