After completing his military service, Mr. Dang Truong Khanh did many other things unrelated to cocoa, but suddenly he was "ordered" by his father to leave Ho Chi Minh City to Dinh Quan district instead. he deployed a cocoa development project in this area. Over the past 8 years, he has known how sad and happy it is with cocoa trees.
Mr. Khanh's Trong Ca Co., Ltd started to go to Dinh Quan district in 2004 to study cocoa restoration in Tan Phu and Dinh Quan areas. Two years later (2006), a new enterprise was known to many people and in 2007, the company boldly invested in material area for later processing.
* Cocoa "bitter"
Anh Khanh said: “At first, enterprises raised the issue of restoring cocoa trees in Tan Phu area, not only being supported by the people but also considered by some people to be a donor to sell seeds. Because this place used to grow cocoa, but there was no buyer. So we had to develop our cocoa area first. First 6 hectares and then 8 hectares and now 20 hectares. Enterprises also contract with some households with not much area. Until 2006, when the output of cocoa was favorable, people rushed to learn and sign a contract to plant. In 2007, the company had to invest in a nursery up to more than 1 hectare and the seedling output provided to the market amounted to 800,000 trees. ”
Mr. Dang Truong Khanh with cocoa products produced by Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd. will be launched in 2013.
The focus on developing material areas of Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd is in the districts of Thong Nhat, Dinh Quan and Tan Phu (Dong Nai); Da Hoai, Da Te and Cat Tien (Lam Dong); Duc Linh and Tanh Linh (Binh Thuan). In just a short time, the area planted to cocoa has skyrocketed to 1,000 hectares, far exceeding the expectations of businesses.
“At first, I thought, the area of rapid growth was good, but it was not. The area increased so fast that the technical work did not keep up, causing harm, but now, enterprises are having to overcome. Many households are very subjective, thinking that cocoa trees are easy to grow, so when they come to find out, they only care about the output of the product. This type of cocoa is quite different from previous cocoa, requires good technique. Many areas intermingled to the fourth year and found poor productivity, the garden owner was tight again, looking very pity, ”said Khanh.
* Turn key products
More than 7 years of research, finally cocoa processing products of Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd. has just been licensed for production by specialized agencies. Currently, enterprises are concentrating on two lines of fermented cocoa beans for products: cocoa powder, chocolate, butter and cocoa paste; Fresh pods produce two types of alcohol: 12 degrees and 39 alcoholic. In the near future, businesses will produce some more products from fresh cocoa pods.
Anh Khanh said that if the cocoa pods are merely sold for seeds, it is very wasteful and the economic efficiency of cocoa is not high. Because 12kg of fresh fruit is 1kg of dry beans. Thus, the amount of by-products must be greatly removed, now the enterprises are processing this by-product to increase the value of the cocoa. According to Khanh, the reason businesses boldly invest in material areas is aimed at stabilizing raw materials for later processing. In order to ensure the quality of products for processing, Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd. also selected to invest 92 hectares of 79 households in the UTZ (International Good Production Certification for Cocoa) program.
Particularly for raw cocoa beans for export, in 2011, enterprises exported 70 tons of seeds and this year is expected to exceed 120 tons. Anh Khanh said, although the area of cocoa is now declining, the output is still increasing because of the large cocoa trees that have high productivity.
