It is no coincidence that Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd was assessed by the International Cocoa Association (ICCO) as a model of Vietnamese cocoa. Because right from the early days of establishment, Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd. has always determined, want to grow up, nothing else is to be proactive in raw material areas and share profits with farmers.
Talking with us, Mr. Dang Tuong Khanh said, right from the early years when bringing the cocoa to the local, we had the idea of building an "industrial village". That is the establishment of a concentrated cocoa industry planting village with professional and technical guidance and seed support for farmers.
The idea of building an "industrial village" was initially too new to make many people show lack of trust in the success of the project. But the old doctor - the excellent doctor Dang Tuong Kham (his father Khanh) was determined to do it at that time. In 2006, he pledged assets, borrowed about 30 billion VND to invest in farmers in the provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Thuan and Lam Dong to borrow 50% of the value of seedlings to develop cocoa material areas. With its new and daring way, Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd is trusted by farmers, the material area develops rapidly, reaching over 1,200ha in just 3 years. Having the raw material area, the company organizes purchasing products for farmers through the establishment of cocoa clubs to bypass intermediaries. But the cocoa crop after that price continued to fall.
“At that time, we determined that we want the company to exist and develop, at the first time, we must retain the area of existing material at all costs. At the end of 2013, seeing positive signals from the market and at this time, many products of Trong Duc cocoa processing are also welcomed by the market, the company boldly decided to sign a contract of product consumption. for farmers to ensure the purchase of the lowest price of VND 4,000 / kg of fresh cocoa pods within 7 years from 2013-2020 and commitment to increase prices if market prices rise, ”Khanh said. According to Khanh, the commitment to cover cocoa prices for a long period of 7 years is considered a turning point, a "revolution" that destroys the "iceberg" in the hearts of people in the area of raw materials about anxiety. both precarious. Subsequently, from September 2015, Cocoa Co., Ltd signed a contract to sell products at a price of VND 6,000 / kg of cocoa pods within one year, making farmers of material growing areas excited and expanding the area. planting new cocoa in 2015 adds 200 hectares, of which 120 hectares in Dong Nai alone.

Businesses and farmers benefit
According to Director of Cao Cao Co., Ltd, Duc Trong Dang Tuong Khanh, if only taking seeds and exporting raw cocoa, it only gives low value, but if it is made into processed products, it can bring about value increase. thousand% compared to raw export. Specifically, for chocolate or pharmaceuticals, the added value of cocoa beans brings up to 600%, and if cosmetics are produced, the profit is even greater. To date, a series of products such as cocoa powder, cocoa milk, wine, spirits, confectionery, chocolate ... of Trong Duc are becoming increasingly popular products on the market. Cao Trong Duc is cooperating with a Japanese enterprise to invest in processing chocolate products for export to Japan, Taiwan, and Korea markets with an initial contract of about 6-8 tons of chocolate / year. In order to create a stable source of materials for processing and export, Trong Duc is cooperating with farmers in four districts of Dinh Quan, Tan Phu, Thong Nhat and Xuan Loc to develop cocoa specialized areas according to a large model field model. with an area of thousands of hectares by 2020. Participating in the project, high-growers are supported with seeds, access to capital, production techniques and product consumption.
"According to the project, cooperatives will play a role of bridging between businesses and farmers in transferring farming techniques, product consumption to farmers at prices higher than market prices," Khanh affirmed. . Besides, in order to ensure the quality of products for processing, Trong Duc Cocoa Co., Ltd. has developed 145 hectares of cocoa in UTZ certified material areas. This is a global certification program that sets standards for agricultural production and business with economic, social and environmental responsibility ... According to Mr. Khanh, the biggest problem to export chocolate to Japan It is very strict food safety standards. Therefore, recently, the company has invested in building a closed production line according to the standards of this market with a capacity of up to 40 tons / year. In February 2016, the first chocolate shipment of the Company will be exported to Japan with 500 kg of chocolate / month. The initial cooperation between the two companies was signed within 3 years with a total value of up to 4 million USD.
