The International Cocoa Council has classified Vietnam in the group of cocoa-growing countries with good-tasting cocoa products. After the 2013 Quality Cocoa Award in France, cocoa powder Vietnam has just been included in the list of the world's leading producers of this agricultural product with good taste recognized by the ICC. Thus, Vietnam has become the 23rd country on this list out of about 60 countries in the world with cocoa production. Besides Vietnam, there is only one other Asian country on this list, which is Indonesia. The rest are countries in the Americas and Africa.
Countries classified by the International Cocoa Council as producing good-tasting cocoa are also assessed by this Council quite specifically, the percentage of cocoa production that meets the above standard. Accordingly, Vietnam has 40% of cocoa production with good taste.
Compared to Indonesia, the percentage of good-tasting cocoa in Vietnam is much higher, because this percentage of Indonesia is only 1%. But compared to most of the countries on the list, the percentage of good-tasting cocoa in Vietnam is still quite modest, because up to 10 countries are 100% good-tasting cocoa, many countries reach the ratio from 75 to 95. %, remaining some countries have the same, slightly higher or lower percentage of flavored cocoa than Vietnam, such as Belize 50%, Honduras 50%, Panama 50%, Guatemala 50%, Dominican Republic 40% and Sao Tome and Principe 35%.
Being classified as a high-quality country with good taste will certainly make Vietnam's cocoa exports more favorable.
Currently, Vietnam's cocoa area is about 12,000 hectares (in 2016), the total annual output is about 6,000 tons. Of which, 3,000 tons of cocoa are exported, the rest is consumed domestically.
