In an experiment, 42 people followed a diet consisting of 40 grams of unsweetened cocoa powder mixed with skimmed milk or drank only skimmed milk.
After one month, those who drank milk with cocoa powder had lower concentrations of the sticky molecule than those who drank only non-dairy milk. Adhesion molecule is a protein that causes white blood cells to stick to artery walls leading to strong atherosclerosis and heart diseases.
According to the scientists, the above results are interesting because the participants in the experiment were over 70 years old and had a high risk of heart disease.

These people all had diabetes and had at least three other factors that can increase the risk of heart disease, such as smoking, high blood pressure, high levels of LDL "bad" cholesterol, obesity, or family have a history of heart disease.
During the study, the patients did not take any additional vitamins or supplements, but only used cocoa products provided by the scientists.
The researchers also found that cocoa powder helped increase "good" HDL cholesterol, which in turn helped lower LDL cholesterol levels.
